The Juelz Tucker Interview (York, PA)

Name: Juelz Tucker

Height: 6-Feet

Position: Point Guard

High School: York High (PA)

Graduation Class: 2024

AAU Club: Team Pennsylvania

Status: Uncommitted

Juelz Tucker is a 6-foot Point Guard from York, Pennsylvania. He's currently a sophomore at William Penn Senior High School, and runs with Team Pennsylvania. Tucker is an up-and-coming guard from the York area, who plays an up tempo style of game. From his improved shot creating ability, being smooth in the one-on-one game or bullying his way in the paint for an easy two, Tucker is one I've noticed throughout the past winter. From being under York's head coach, Clovis Gallon in my playing career almost a decade ago, I've always admired how he develops guards and even his work off the court as a specialist in the City of York School District. But I believe that Tucker can be just as great as he wants to be, as long as he remains focused in all aspects on the court and outside the gym. The potential is there, and I am rooting for the young man. I caught up with the York High standout in an interview on his sophomore season, his training schedule and relationship with Kenyon Elliot, a former Bishop McDevitt standout.

Juelz Tucker Interview

When did you start playing basketball?

"I picked up a basketball when I was 3 years old i started officially playing when I first turned 5."

Describe how you are as a player from the skill standpoint?

"From the skill standpoint as of now I feel like my level is unmatched and it will continue to be unmatched. Not to be big headed or anything."

How was life growing up in York?

"Growing up in York is hard man. You get caught up in stuff you never thought you would get caught up in. It’s just about the perseverance part to get back on what you have to do."

How was your sophomore season?

"My sophomore season was most definitely a learning experience for school ball. But, I did have plenty of accomplishments. I had an honorable mention for the first and second team, and I was MVP for our opening tournament. As of team ball, it was good but just stay tuned in."

You’re still at a very early stage of your career. What kinds of things are you doing to make yourself the best player you can be?

"I have basketball training, practice and strength training. Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Saturdays are strength training. Then the rest is all basketball. I might stay in the gym until 11:30 at night on school days. On the weekends, I come back home in the a.m."

What are your plans for this summer?

"My plans for the summer is AAU. I play for Team Pennsylvania. We had the Pitt Jam Fest and the Boo Williams tournament. We have a lot of other great tournaments to attend to as well. The summer will most definitely be fun."

Which athlete do you look up to the most?

"I look up to DJ Wagner. His game is smooth and swift. He is just an all around player. I feel as though I am able to set my game around his."

Who do you look up to as role models?

"Honestly I look up to Kenyon Elliot. He doesn’t know that, but the reason I look up to him is because he’s one of the hardest workers I know. He also walked me around and pinpointed on what I have to do to be up there. He told me I have the skill now it’s just the work, and effort I need to put forth. That’s a little summary of what he said to me."

I know it is still very early, but what are you looking forward to in your junior season?

"I’m looking forward to getting an offer. Not only to D1, but to a prep school. Nobody knows how bad I’m working for that."

Thank you for taking the time to talk with me this morning. Do you have any words of encouragement or motivation for people? Any last words?

"I have a couple of words to say. Don’t let anybody tear down what you built up. It may be people, the devil or even your family that will interfere with what your building up. Just keep fighting, and keep going. Don’t let ANYBODY take anything from you."
