Expectations heading into senior year: "To make first-team all league, perform at a high level and make a deep playoff run with my team!"

Logan Jackson is a 6-7 Forward from Hillsboro, Oregon. He's a rising senior at Hillsboro High School and runs with International Elite on the AAU circuit. Jackson is a bigger sharpshooting guard who's an instant spark from the perimeter and one of the most humbled prospects I have met throughout the spring. In his shortened junior season, Jackson averaged 12.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.2 steals per game throughout 10 games. The young man models his game after the late great Kobe Bryant and his fade away will tell you everything you need to know about LJ. But let's get to know more about Logan Jackson in my breakdown below.

Breakdown:

Strengths

- Can Score at all three levels

  • "Very skilled inside-out player who pretty much does everything on the court."

- Continuous growth as a player

  • "Comparing last year to this year, his game has sharpened as he's used his time wisely throughout the pandemic."

- Explosive Player

  • "Not the most athletic player on the floor at times, but Jackson has been working on his explosiveness and agility to make sure that he's up to speed."

- High IQ Guard

  • "Always makes the right play."

- One of the smoothest shooters in the northwest.

  • "He. Does. Not. Miss. Okay maybe I exaggerated it, but bottom line, he's a hot shooter who will give you buckets."

- Strong Rebounder

  • "Puts his 6-7 frame to use and grabs the best of rebounds."

- Versatile player

  • "Positionless player who can play the 1 through 4, create his own shot at a high level and buys into working hard not just on the court. A college ready prospect who will be a great fit anywhere he goes."

Things to improve on

- Sharpening his form

  • "One of the things that Jackson preached to me was working on his form. It's something that he works on everyday to perfect and he wants to make sure he's the best shooter that he can be."

- Strength & Conditioning

  • "Jackson is still coming off of an ankle injury and is still working on getting back in shape. Spending the time now to work on mobility, general strength and rehabbing that ankle after the live period is crucial for Jackson's health and building the right muscles heading into his last prep career."

Below is my interview with Logan Jackson.

LOGAN JACKSON Q&A

When did you first start playing basketball?

  • "I began playing basketball on a YMCA team when I was 4 years old. It was a 1st graders team but being the tallest one in my kindergarten, my dad figured I could play with the older kids. That's where the love and addiction began for the game of basketball."

Describe your game.

  • "I would say my game as a player is a scorer and shooter and playmaker. I can draw people onto me easily being a shooting and scoring threat and find my open teammates easily with my height. I can play inside and out and take the big guys off the dribble on the outside and down low and dominate smaller guards in the post and mid post."

The OSAA decided to postpone your regular school season. How was your junior season this past spring?

  • "My Junior season went pretty well. Having a short weird season was very different and hard to get used to mentally and physically, but after a few games it felt like how it used to for the team and we played really well together. Having such low numbers, sadly we would gas out from battling other teams all game, and in the 4th run out of gas and lose games by less then 6. We really grew as a program and team and individuals and everybody including myself had really show out seasons."

What is your role on Hillsboro’s basketball team?

  • "My role on Hilhi's basketball team is I'm the guy to look to. Not necessarily for a bucket every time, but for a leader and captain and somebody to rely on at all times. It took me a few games to understand my role not just as a player, but a teammate and I had to be there every night player wise along with leadership."

How was the live period this summer touring with International Elite all over the west coast?

  • "The live period was very fun. I loved traveling with my team playing ball against all kinds of competition all over the country and showing coaches and players all over the skill set I have and ability to play basketball at a high level."

How has your college recruitment been going?

  • "College recruitment has been great. Lots of D1 through D3 and some NAIA schools from all over contacting me, showing lots of interest and inviting me to elite camps. Now that AAU is over, I am going to go out to as many elite camps as I can to get my name out there even more."

What are some of your favorite hobbies to do off the court?

  • "A few of my favorite hobbies to do off the court is photography, filming, and film study."

You’re still at a very early stage of your career. What kinds of things are you doing to make yourself the best player you can be?

  • "I am really working on my body and my knees and trying to make myself as healthy as possible and doing things to maximize my physical ability right now and doing things that will keep and make my body as healthy as possible for the future so I can play basketball the best to my physical ability for a long time."

Which athlete do you look up to the most?

  • "The athlete I look up to most and try to base my game off of lost is Kobe Bryant. I have been a huge Kobe Bryant fan since the 7th grade and loved his passion and fire for the game. I felt watching him and his highlights and speeches that same fire I feel when I play basketball myself. He was a very smart basketball player and a mental and physical monster and I hope to develop my game as much as I possibly can and be great to leave a mark where I play."

Who do you look up to as a role model?

  • "I look up to my Dad and Kobe Bryant most. They both give me motivation, support and great words of wisdom in basketball and in life."

It’s still very early, but what are you looking forward to in your senior season?

  • "Some long term goals is to make first team all league for my conference and team, increase my speed and athleticism before the end of senior year season, and have my team make it to playoffs and make it deep."

Do you have any words of encouragement or motivation for people?

  • "The words of wisdom I would love to tell people is. Never ever give up or let someone make something you love not fun. You were born with freedom in life and things you love. Don't ever let anybody take that freedom away from you or anybody. People will try and take the joy out of things you love to do or tell you you aren't good enough or can't do something. Instead of accepting they are right in that instance maybe or saying they are right when you know deep down they are wrong. Take that say okay, I'm going to show them more then anyone ever and show them I'm going to be better then they ever thought and said I could and would be. Just to see their face when they are proven wrong."
